
WHISTLEBLOWING IN JERSEY? Where are we now?

The Jersey Employment Forum (JEF) has released a report and recommendations on introducing public interest disclosure (whistleblowing) legislation in Jersey. This legislation would protect individuals who report certain types of wrongdoing.
The report follows a survey of thoughts in 2024
TIMELINE FOR BRINGING WHISTLEBLOWING TO JERSEY
2023
- Further to JEF's 2025 report above, it is notable that on 29 June 2023, Deputy Carina Alves proposed legislation to protect whistleblowers in Jersey.
- Also, in 2023, the states started acting:-
- Introduction of legislation (p.47/2023): amendment Lodged au Greffe on 11 July 2023 by the Minister for Social Security. The earliest date for debate is 18 July 2023.
2024
- And the goal was to have this legislation approved by the Assembly before the end of December 2024
- JEF closed its consultation on views on 22nd November 2024.
- JEF sought views on the best way to design a system of statutory whistleblowing protections in Jersey. It also welcomes examples of whistleblowing policies already operated by businesses and organisations on the island and how they work in practice.
