JFSC November DNFBP & sole-trader events: DNFBP annual update (12 or 14 Nov) and sole-trader BRA workshop (24 Nov)

Two JFSC events in November matter for Schedule 2 businesses. They are not the same meeting. Book the right one — or both, if you are a sole trader.

Executive summary

Two JFSC events in November matter for Schedule 2 businesses. They are not the same meeting.

  • 12 or 14 November 2026 — DNFBP annual update (same briefing, two sittings). Book this if you are a Schedule 2 DNFBP: law firm or lawyer, accountancy firm or accountant, estate agent, high-value dealer, NED who is Schedule 2 supervised, other natural-person director, or any other Part 3 Schedule 2 person — registered directly or via an AMLSP.

  • 24 November 2026 — sole-trader BRA workshop. Book this as well if you are a sole trader. That includes a Schedule 2 NED or other natural person registered in their own right. Do not use it instead of the annual update.

Who is this for?

  • All Part 3 Schedule 2 supervised persons:

    • Law firms and lawyers, accountancy firms and accountants, estate agents, high-value dealers,

    • NEDs who are themselves Schedule 2 supervised, other natural-person directors, and

    • Any other DNFBP — whether registered directly or via an AMLSP.

  • A NED in this context is not a guest in the room. If they carry on Schedule 2 business in their own name, they are a DNFBP and, in practice, a sole trader. They sit on the same ladder as every other Schedule 2 person.

The following shows: JFSC = what the Commission has published. - Comsure = what we recommend and why.

Event 1 — DNFBP annual update (choose one sitting)

  • JFSC agenda: Jersey as an IFC and growth; lessons from examinations (findings and good practice); fees and digital services; digital assets; DNFBP outreach; compliance tools; priorities for the year ahead; panel Q&A.

  • JFSC speakers: Jill Britton, Director General and Registrar (opening). Joe Moynihan, CEO, Jersey Finance (guest).

  • JFSC does not split Session 1 and Session 2 by sector. Treat them as the same briefing.

Why go

  • This is the Commission’s once-a-year DNFBP room.

  • The examination-lessons slot is where they will talk about what the visits are finding.

  • Since July, they have already published the papers that the slot will rest on, even though Eventbrite does not name them

PUBLISHED PAPERs

What to do

  • Book one seat for the MLCO, MLRO or the person who owns the BRA and SAR process.

  • Read the three papers above first.

  • Take questions on vendor screening, OSP notifications and which 2027 themes hit Schedule 2 firms.

Event 2 — Build a strong business risk assessment: workshop for sole traders

JFSC.

Why is it a different event?

A BRA that does not match what the firm actually does — property, tax, company work, high-value goods, one-off clients — is what examiners score first.

Booking ladder — start at the top and stop when the step fits

  • 1 — every DNFBP
    Book
    12 or 14 November.
Why: this is the official annual supervisory briefing. Fees, exam lessons, 2027 priorities and the Q&A only happen here.
Who goes: MLCO, MLRO or the person who owns the BRA and SAR process — not only a marketing lead.

  • 2 — then ask: are you a sole trader or a one-person Schedule 2 business?
    If
    yes, also book 24 November.
Why: the annual update will not build your BRA for you. The workshop is the hands-on session.
    If
no, stay on 1. A multi-partner firm with a current, firm-specific BRA does not need the sole-trader workshop as well.

  • 3 — then ask: is your BRA still a short template, a group copy, or last reviewed before the 30 June 2026 Handbook / MLCO changes?
    If
yes and you are small enough that 24 November is aimed at you, add the workshop.
Why: weak BRAs are a repeat JFSC finding across legal, accountancy and estate-agency files.
    If
no, do not use 24 November as extra CPD for a BRA that is already live.

  • 4 — then ask: are you on an AMLSP?
    Still book
    12 or 14 November.
    Add
24 November only if you are the natural person and the BRA sitting over your activity is thin.
Why: the AMLSP can run CDD; you remain accountable for the BRA.

  • 5 — beware
Do not send someone to 24 November
    instead of 12/14 November.
Why: the workshop is not a substitute for the annual update. You will miss the examination lessons, fees, digital-services and 2027 programme discussion.
